Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, creative directors of Valentino, have proven themselves to be two of the most talented fashion designers working today.

For the next fall winter 2013-2014, Valentino designers are inspired by the Dutch painter Jan Vermeer and his Flemish sensual portraits of women. The collection shown on the Paris catwalks includes Macramé lace (or velvet) long dresses (embellished with designs inspired by Chinese porcelain-designs), "austere" collar blouses, A-line skirts, ermine trimmed coats (capes).

The Valentino woman (without any trills and useless tinsels) is a triumph at the extreme craftsmanship (obviously made in Italy): the minimalist style, despite its (apparently) rigorous geometry, outsmarts and becomes more feminine and elegant than ever.

Lace, leather and jacquard knit fabric as a backdrop to the entire collection. The color palette orbits around scarlet, china blue, pale yellow and the (inevitable) black color. There are pearls (a clear tribute to the Girl with Pearl earring by Vermeer).

A far da cornice all'intera collezione: pizzo, pelle e maglie dai motivi jacquard.
